I have gathered for you some important facts of health benefits of dates and dates nutrition, then in the second part of this article I will tell you how I use it.
Date is consumed as a delicious delicacy. Many people have no idea that its healing effect is not to be underestimated.
Fresh dates and dried ones have almost exactly the same nutritional value.
The sweet flesh surrounding the seed contains 60 to 70 percent fructose
Despite its high sugar content, dates are a healthy, wonderful and fast source of energy.
The fructose in dates behaves completely differently when it enters the body than sucrose and does not put an extraordinary strain on the pancreas.
The excess is converted to glycogen by the liver and stored. Hence, dates are not at all fattening, but are a vital source of energy that has a refreshing effect on the whole body and especially on brain function.
The date still has a number of health benefits. It is very rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals. It contains vitamins A, B, C and D, calcium, sulfur, zinc, iron, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, copper and oil.

How I use dates nutriton to benefit me
So you have just read how wonderful and healty fruit date is. And it is … however it doesn’t mean you should eat it mindlessly when you crave for sugar!
Of course it is much better to choose dates over a cake made of refined sugar but keep measure!
If you eat a lot of it I am definitely convinced that you’ll gain weight, especially if you are over 40!
I usually keep my daily intake of carbohyrate low, but when I crave for sweeties (and believe me I do), I eat 2-3 dates.
I could easily eat 10 times more but I keep myself controlled.
When do I eat dates?
- When I crave for sugar, only 2-3 dates
- Before workout, 3 pieces
- When I travel for a longer trip e.g. excursion, I usually bring with myself a small box of dates. It requires little space and if I happen to get hungry it will take my hunger almost instantly.
Beware of the sugar coated dates!
There are two kinds of dates on the market :
- One kind is coated is sugar syrup!! (this is the common one)
- The other is natural
I don’t understand why they need to put the already sweet dates in sugar syrup (perhaps it looks better?) but I say if you can, buy the natural one.
It is easy to distinguis because the sugar coated is shinier, while the natural one is “matte”.
